Where can you enjoy a delicious lunch, meet good friends, and engage in lively and stimulating discussion?

  • DJCS High School Discussion Group Once-a-month*Sunday Brunch from 11:45 am and 1:15 pm.
  • We welcome both new and returning students entering Grades  8-11 in September 2011.
  • Exciting topics developed by Group Leader Marsha Slavens in consultation with the group.
  • Exciting guest speakers.
  • Volunteer opportunities available; can be used for school volunteer hours.
  • Families take turns providing a dairy or vegetarian snack.

Instructor:  Long time DJCS teacher Marsha Slavens holds a BA & B.ED from the University of Toronto. She brings to the school extensive teaching experience as well as a special love and interest in Israel.

The numerous guest speakers offered us inspiring perspectives on various topics, from the horrors of the Holocaust to the situation in modern Israel. The no-homework policy adds to the relaxed atmosphere, where learning and enjoyment are priorities, not marks or competition”.

Some highlights from this year:

  • The participation of our two Israeli emissaries, who provided their personal insights into relevant issues.
  • Presentation from students onf their trips to Israel.
  • Meeting and hearing from a Holocaust survivor.
  • Helping at the Passover Food Drive.
  • Participating in a campaign to free IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, sponsored by Hillel university students.
  • Learning about a GTA Jewish Agency, Jewish Family and Child.
  • Meeting and hearing from an IDF soldier.

 

Tuition: $500 is fully tax refundable as a charitable donation.
